How much does a school yearbook cost?
For an elementary school, roughly $20–$35 a copy for a softcover book. Page count moves that number more than anything else, because a yearbook is priced by the page. Below is every number we charge, published, so you can compare us against a quote you already have.
Four things move the price. Only one of them is big.
Coordinators are usually handed a single number and no way to interrogate it. It comes apart into four parts, and they are not the same size.
- Page count. The largest factor by a distance. A yearbook is priced by the page, so an 80-page book and a 40-page book are not close. Decide the page count before you compare quotes, or you are comparing two different products.
- Cover and binding. Softcover is the default. A hardcover is +$9 a book here, and it is a per-family choice rather than a school-wide one.
- Upgrades families choose. Automatic personalization is +$10. A child’s name on the cover is +$5; name and photo is +$7. Each is optional and each is charged to the family who wants it.
- How it ships. Free in bulk to the school during the regular cycle. A summer order costs +$5 on the book and about $8–$9 to ship to a home, with one rate covering several books in the same order.
What does not move it: quantity. We print digitally, so a 120-book school pays the same per copy as a 900-book school. On an offset press — which is what the large vendors run — quantity is exactly what moves the number, which is why their quotes start with a print run you have to commit to.

The base softcover price depends on your page count and comes back in the quote — that is the one number we cannot publish as a single figure without it being wrong for most schools. Everything above it is flat and is what you see here. Prices are for the 2026–27 season.
A 300-book elementary school.
Say your cost comes back at $22 a softcover copy. You set the family price at $26, which is a $4 margin — squarely in the range most schools choose.
300 families order. The gross margin is $1,200. The 5% third-party payment processing fee comes off that, leaving the PTA roughly $1,140. The school paid nothing up front, signed nothing, and printed no book that nobody bought.
A family that wants the personalized edition in hardcover with their child’s name on the cover pays $26 + $10 + $9 + $5 = $50. A family that wants the plain softcover pays $26. Why you cannot find anyone else’s prices.
You have probably noticed that searching for yearbook prices returns quote forms rather than numbers. That is not an oversight and it is not shyness.
Jostens, Herff Jones and Lifetouch sell through commissioned representatives, and rep pricing is set per account. Publishing a list would remove the ability to quote two schools differently for the same book — so the list does not exist. It is a rational decision for a business built that way, and it is also why the only reliable way to compare those vendors is to make each of them put the per-book price, the minimum and the term length in writing, and then read them side by side.

How much does the school itself pay for a yearbook program?
At Rethink, nothing. There is no setup fee, no deposit, no binding contract and no minimum order. Some vendors work the other way round, quoting a print run the school commits to in advance and invoicing for overruns.

How much can a school raise on top of the yearbook?
The school sets the family price above its own cost and keeps the difference, minus a 5% third-party payment processing fee. Most schools add $2 to $5 a book. On a 300-book sale that is roughly $600 to $1,500 for the PTA, with no upfront cost and no unsold-inventory risk.
Is a hardcover yearbook worth the extra cost?
For an elementary keepsake that a family will keep for twenty years, usually yes — at Rethink the hardcover upgrade is +$9 per book.
