Yearbooks for small schools

A small school can have a full yearbook. Rethink has no order minimum and no price penalty for a small run: books are printed digitally, so a 120-book school pays the same per copy as a 900-book school, and only the books families order are printed.

Minimums

Do we need a minimum order?

No. Rethink prints the quantity families order, at any size. There is no deposit, no setup fee and no multi-year term: a school signs a one-school-year agreement.

Because the book is printed to order, you never guess a print run, and the PTA never pays for leftover copies. How many yearbooks to order, and why printing to order changes the question.

Price

Does a small school pay more per copy?

No. Quantity doesn’t change the per-copy price, because the books are printed digitally rather than run off on an offset press. Page count moves the price more than anything else.

Softcover starts from $20 a copy, priced by page count. Your exact price comes in your quote, which arrives within one business day. What a yearbook costs, line by line.

Pages

How many pages does a small school need?

As many as you can fill well, and no more. A yearbook is priced by the page, so a shorter book costs less than a longer one. With fewer students, each class can have more room: a full page of candids per class, or a spread for each grade’s big events.

Plan it on a yearbook ladder before you choose a page count, so the number comes from the pages you actually have, not a guess.

The team

Can one or two people run it?

Yes. A school of under 200 students can run the yearbook with one or two people. One person can do it alone if three things are handed off: teachers or room parents send photos, the office sends portrait files, and the yearbook company answers family questions.

One person can’t also design every page from scratch, so keep the book short or take a free First Draft: Rethink builds a first draft from your page plan and template choice, and you edit it in Canva. How to organize a yearbook committee, by school size.

Fundraising

Can a small school raise money with a yearbook?

Yes. The school sets the family price above its cost and keeps the difference; most schools add $2–5 a book. A 5% processing fee comes off money paid out to the PTA, and none when it is put toward more books. The amount per book is the same at any size, so a small school raises less in total but takes no risk: there is no upfront cost and no unsold stock.

The fundraising calculator works it out for your own number of families.

Smaller still

What if we only want a book for one grade?

That is a memory book: a short printed book for one grade, usually the last year of elementary school. 5th-grade memory books for small runs.

Dates

When should a small school start?

The same way a large one does: count back from the last day of school. The book seal date is the day the book goes to print and family ordering closes (families see it as the last day to order). Books arrive about three weeks later, and on-time delivery is guaranteed when the book seals at least three weeks before you need it. The yearbook timeline, month by month.
