Yearbooks for middle schools

A middle school yearbook is often built by one teacher or a few volunteers, not a big staff, for students who want to see their friends, their events and themselves. Rethink works with stand-alone middle schools, grades 6 to 8: classes are listed by grade, every student is in the shared pages, there is no minimum order or deposit, and softcover starts from $20 a copy.

The difference

What is different about a middle school yearbook?

Students move between teachers, so a “class” usually means a homeroom or advisory group. Students care about candids, events and friends more than about teachers. And whoever runs the book is often a single teacher or parent with a few helpers. Rethink asks for a class list, portraits and the school’s photos, and the rest follows a page plan the team edits.

Classes

Does Rethink handle grades 6 to 8?

Yes. 6th, 7th and 8th grade appear as their own sections, in grade order. The coordinator keeps one class list: each homeroom or advisory group is a class with a teacher, and a combined group can be placed under the grade the coordinator chooses.

Class pages

How do class pages work?

Each class gets a page with the students’ portraits and the teacher’s name, in first-name order. Portraits come from the school’s picture-day photos; the coordinator can correct a name, a class or a photo, and the corrections are kept.

Personalization

Can each student’s pages be personalized?

Yes. Every student is in the shared pages. Families who choose personalization (+$10) also get myClass or myGrade pages with candid photos from their child’s own class and grade, built from the photos the school uploads, plus their name and photo on the cover. How many photos include any one student depends on what is uploaded.

Students

Can students help make the yearbook?

Yes. Students can take photos, write captions and proofread names. That is the school’s call; Rethink does not need a student staff or a yearbook class. The book is designed in Canva, and the free First Draft builds a first draft your team edits. Browse the Canva yearbook templates.

Price

How much does a middle school yearbook cost?

Softcover from $20 a copy, priced by page count; personalization +$10, including the child’s name and photo on the cover; hardcover +$9. No setup fee, no deposit, no order minimum, and a one-school-year agreement. Your quote arrives within one business day. What a yearbook costs, line by line.

Fundraising

Can a middle school raise money with its yearbook?

Yes. The school sets the family price above its cost and keeps the difference; most schools add $2–5 a book. A 5% processing fee comes off money paid out to the PTA, and none when it is put toward more books. How yearbook fundraising works.

Being straight with you

Where might another vendor fit better?

A middle school with a yearbook class that wants to design every spread in professional software, with a representative and training for student editors, may prefer a vendor built around student staffs. Rethink vs. Walsworth · how the main yearbook companies compare.
